David Beckham, the England midfielder last night confirmed he wants to finish his career at the San Siro. Since arriving in Milan David Beckham has even exceeded his own ambitions by scoring 2 goals and setting up a handful of goals for his team mates. His initial goal was to have some playing time for one of the giants in European soccer. Not only has he been playing all games, AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi wants to buy Beckhams contract outright making sure that Beckham finishes his career in Milan.
David Beckham has also received praise from the legendary Godfather of the AC Milan dressing room Paulo Maldini.
“David has integrated well with everyone from the first day and it’s all going positively. Milan are stronger with him around.”
The 33 year old looks better than ever and has the fire back in the belly that was missing when he was playing in the MLS. The current loan agreement between the Galaxy and Milan is due to expire on the 9th of March. But Beckham has expressed his desire to finish his career in Milan on more than one occasion.
“I’ve expressed my desire to stay here for a while but at the moment I’m still a Galaxy player”
“I respect the Galaxy and everything they have done for me. They have always been great to me. But I hope they can come to an agreement and its down to the clubs now.”
Beckham only needs one appearance to tie defender Bobby Moore at 108 games for England only second to goal keeper Peter Shiltons record of 125 caps. If David Beckham remains a Milan player he is guaranteed to play for England again.
5 Reasons why David Beckham must stay in Milan
- Milan vs Galaxy. Milan has been home for some of the greatest players and coaches in the world. No other team has won more champions league cups than Milan. The history, culture, success and playing roster of Milan cannot be compared. LA Galaxy on the other hand is a team that finished 15th in a league of 17 clubs. To compare the 2 clubs would be like comparing chalk and cheese.
- Beckham has regained confidence and reputation in Milan. Beckham has scored 2 goals and set up a handful of goals and all of a sudden people remember why Beckham is one of the biggest soccer players in the world. David Beckham has gone from “washed up” to an immortal in the space of 1 month. People are even suggesting that he plays in the 2010 World Cup.
- Ronaldinho, Kaka, Pirlo, Nesta, Maldini, enough said. Milan don’t rely on Beckham for victories. The load is shared amongst the playing roster. This gives Beckham the freedom and creativity to be David Beckham. Galaxy provides no playing support and relies heavily on Beckham to get results. Don’t forget that America labelled him “washed up”.
- To fulfill his ambition to win something with England. The 3 World Cups so far have been disappointing. Sent off in his first world cup, unfit in the second and substituted off as captain in tears at the third. The only way he will play in the 2010 world cup is by staying at Milan.
- Age-David Beckham is at the age of 33. These next couple of weeks are make or break for him. It’s now and never and he knows it. Surely Galaxy will let him stay, but money has a way of making people do funny things.
At the end of the day the solution is very simple. David Beckham and the brand Beckham over the years has accumulated a vast amount of money. Maybe it’s time he buys himself out of the LA Galaxy contract to keep his World Cup dream alive.
When Beckham was a young boy he dreamed of playing for his country and in the world cup. He was fortunate enough to play in 3 and was also given the captaincy. No amount of money will stop Beckham playing in his fourth.
Like the old saying goes, “money isn’t everything”. In my opinion, David Beckham is not only a superstar, but the words true professional don’t give this man enough credit. David Beckham has bounced back on many occasions, from death threats for being sent off against Argentina, from the broken foot that nearly ended his career, from the bust up with Sir Alex Ferguson, from Capello’s sacking at Real Madrid and from being labeled”washed up” by the American media. All of a sudden his back to his best and the same coach that sacked him from Real Madrid wants him to play for the national side. To finish up with one more quote,
“you can’t keep a good man down”
David Beckham throughout his career had some dizzy highs followed by some dangerous lows. But till this day, David Beckham is the biggest soccer player on the planet. LA Galaxy owe it to soccer to let him stay in Milan.
